Peter Murray

Peter Murray was Honorary Secretary of The Architecture Club from 1977 to 2013, taking over from George Mansell who had been editor of The Architect and Building news. Peter was then editor of Building Design magazine. In 1979 he was appointed editor of the Royal Institute of British Architects Journal and Managing director of RIBA Publications. In 1983 he founded Blueprint magazine as well as Wordsearch, a design consultancy specialising in real estate, architecture and placemaking.

He is a keen advocate of cycling in the city and author of numerous books including The Saga of Sydney Opera House, Architecture and Commerce and London’s Great Estates. In 1986 he co-curated the exhibition New Architecture: the work of Foster, Rogers, Stirling and in 1998 he curated Living Bridges, both at the Royal Academy. In 2004 he founded the London Architecture Biennale, now the London Festival of Architecture.

He is Co-Founder of New London Architecture. Peter trained at Bristol University and Architectural Association but has spent his career writing and communicating architecture rather than practising it.
